Rooted and Whole
SARA BOYLES
There is a place within me that is strong, rooted and whole. It is the place that holds my wisdom and heart song Sometimes I get distracted from that place and tilt at windmills. I get caught in doing rather than being. Even when I write these short pieces I know when I am reaching towards my truth while I am writing to meet a deadline.
I have always stated that part of my goal is to become a wise old woman. In Jungian typology it is about becoming a crone. I find myself closer to that place when I lean into the future from the centre. From there I can be truly bold and grounded. It is a confident place and a comfortable place, even with all the dangers that surround it. I am not "tied to the enemy" but can freely respond to that which threatens to hurt me.
The Psalmists seem to have a good handle on this. There are times they want to beat down their enemies and rip their throats open. As they worked through those feelings they were able to complete their writing from a different place, a place from which they could face the future and all that it might bring. Jesus gives us good models too of responding from a powerful place, a place that confounded those who would destroy him. Even in death he was not destroyed. He wasn't always saintly. His "mad" did show through on occasion and the gospel chroniclers saw fit to record some of those instances. The story about the money changers, the times he responded bitterly to his accusers, the time he wanted nothing to do with his family of origin.
May you as a community move forward in the same sex blessing debate in a deep way. I am keeping you in my prayers as I move through my week end in Calgary. I attend the ordination this afternoon of a former parishioner from St. George's, Calgary. Life is so exciting!
Sara
P.S. I am delighted to hear your responses to the fact that Dianne Mesh is coming as the interim. It has great potential! November 30, 1999 |
