Breathe and Listen

SARA BOYLES
Rats! Becca had to remind me that I hadn't written this and it is the first time since she has come back from her maternity leave that I have not had it to her before the deadline. How did I get so distracted today? Was it a late day yesterday or the distraction of a lovely parcel from Vancouver? Perhaps it is cramming too much into what feels like a little piece of time and running too fast.

Maybe though it is simply not breathing and not listening. Such inattention often leads me to thinking I can do more than I truly can. I feel and hear a loud drumbeat in the parish - focussed and unfocussed, pulsing, racing, hurtling along. And I want to join it. It's easy to forget that it all comes together in a more wholistic way when I sink into the sacred place that calls, nurtures and guides me.
.
Stop, listen and then proceed. All will be well, not perfect, not even ideal but well. I invite each of you to also reach deep and to summon the power and energy of the source. That is where we will find the necessary strength and wisdom - from the inside. And what if you are not feeling any? You are still part of this community. Here and in all other communities of gospel followers we are admonished to build each other up and hold each other when things are tough. It is a way of life we have chosen. It is the choice of not being alone. When one is up, another can ride the wave, when another is deflated and discouraged, another can walk alongside with care and encouragement.

I alluded to the many issues and items before us at this moment. We must be careful to remember that we are the church and that we need to make disciplined choices so that we work towards/achieve those things most important to us. Our personal gifts differ so that we can have both chaos and order, discipline and passion, caution and courage. Together we are breathing fresh and new vitality into this place. What a privilege.
