Spring Forward

SARA BOYLES
Spring forward, fall back and while you are at it, change the batteries in your fire detector and flip the mattress. How does one little task get so complicated? There was a day when my calendar simply said, change the clocks. Mind you, I was then in a quandary about whether they went back or forward until I learned that little rhyme. So there has been some good learning over the years.

Spring forward and fall back has many other implications too. I am discovering that one of the ways I approach leaving is with increased activity. It seems I have lots of ideas about what should be spruced up before June and other ideas about how to leave my job in a way that someone can pick it up more easily. (Rather like a teacher leaving the classroom ready for a supply). With this awareness I am examining what I need to do and "spring" into and around which things I need to "fall back". This, hopefully, will leave time for still other important aspects of leaving.

This is the first time I have left anywhere with "lead time" so I do not know the rules experimentally. How much simpler on a practical level to simply pack up and leave in the matter of a couple of weeks. I am aware though that the separation work was shoved down and aside in me. I would relish a talk with anyone who has some experience or insights about this. I also have some books I can share if anyone would like to read one.

Before my leaving takes place though we are going to have a wonderful spring and Holy Week together. I am already dreaming about what difference San Esteban's contributions will make to our Easter Feast. Louise and David Brooke are our co-ordinating team for this so if you have a special contribution to make please let them know. Beside the Sunday mail box today there are also some Lenten reflection tools. Books with my name on I would appreciate having returned at the end of the season.

As always, I appreciate this community which called me here 14 years ago this spring.
