HT and The Cowboy Junkies
SARA BOYLES
It's been a busy week. Gwennyth's funeral last Sunday, a funeral for Wilfred (a Circles client) Wednesday, the burial of Frank's ashes on Thursday and the Parish Day yesterday. All of these events are possible only because of the committed nature of the Holy Trinity community. You have heard before you are unique. I am confirming it once gain. And again I say a big thank you to everyone who brings these events and activities to life. By having our Parish Day away from here, we have been able to rent our space to the Cowboy Junkies for a 25 year anniversary dvd. They did their original "Trinity Sessions" album here that many years ago! This rental not only helps us meet our budget but reminds the world that we have some of the best acoustics in Toronto.
I had a meeting with Maurice from San Esteban's. It is a unique community as well. It is one of the things that gives me hope for living together and sharing this place that we have long called home. There will be much to learn as we give them permission to make this space their home as well. We are practiced in helping outsiders make Canada home. We are practiced in supporting one another when the church doesn't feel like a safe "home". This will be a different challenge. There has been an excellent team developing a document of principles and practices to guide our relationship. It will take all of us to put it into practice however.
This month there are several after church meetings. Next week it is about our aging organ. (Becca has prepared an information sheet for us.) The next week it will be a chance to review the San Esteban document. Both of these documents are available for you on line or in hard copy if that works better for you. Then, on November 25 we will have a special vestry meeting to move ahead on both of these items.
This fall has seen several tenants shift location and spaces as well. All of the tenants who pay city taxes have been relocated to building # 6 (Scadding House). Our community room will move over there on December 1 as well. The Distress Centre is expanding into what we now call the community room in #10 The Old Rectory).
Another interesting things though has been the arrival of two Trinity students this year. Shone Broadman is doing a "pre-intern" placement. She will be here on Wednesday's for People Presence and occasionally on a Sunday. Ellen Dean is here for her internship. That is full winter term, January to April. Already though, she is around the place adding to our community life. We have several new, younger folk with us regularly on Sundays. Toronto is bursting with young energy. It is good to see some of it coming here. Welcome!
These are exciting times of growth, challenge and change. May we grab the opportunity with optimism and joy and make deep memories that will nurture our souls. November 30, 1999 |
