Road Bumps are a Real Liability
SARA BOYLES
Dear Friends,
I found a hand written sticky this week on my desk. It says, "Road bumps are a real liability." It feels like the road to settling the lease and tax issues on the building we call #6 has big pot holes as well as road bumps. Your dedicated team continues to seek a satisfactory resolution in these matters. Surely the road can't be much longer unless the sharks swimming nearby find a way to .....
Something similar might be said about the renovation on the chapel floor which sounded like a fairly straight forward summer project. Discovering dry rot on a main beam and various other irregularities have turned that into a major project. Hopefully the chapel will open for business before Christmas Story needs to hang their costumes for the production of 2005.
I would also suggest that there have been some road bumps in our change over to a new accounting system. It has taken longer and is more complex than we thought. Our enthusiasm for new technology and a "good" new program had led us to believe we could handle the transition ourselves with the help of several community members. Don't get me wrong, the volunteers are working hard but we realize we need some professional technical support as well. The transfer from NuViews to Quickbooks is underway.
Road bumps are important on any journey. They don't necessarily indicate a lack of planning, an overburdened team, a lack of belief or prayer or any other malevolent forces. Road bumps are a fact of life and generally, given the long view, teach us more about living than the moments that slip by with beauty and grace. I have heard it said that we need such road bumps or we wouldn't recognize beauty and grace when they come to the door. Whoops, there is a shark, must go!
Many thanks to everyone who have given so much to the community in these and other ways.
