Recharging Ourselves
SARA BOYLES
It's the first cottage week end of the season and there isn't a cottager without a series of questions and special needs about the pump, boat, rodents or roof. It wouldn't be quite right if something didn't surprise you. In a time long gone, this week end marked the count down until Mom and the kids would head away for the whole summer. Then, there would be an exchange of winter routines for summer ones, the summer ones being the less vigorous and demanding. There was time for reading and dreaming and eating marshmallows around a fire.
No longer is this true. Summer has begun to look like winter and what has been time to recharge and rethink the rest of the year has become time filled with its own programs and planned events. There is no longer a sense of an easy, breezy summer.
How then do we get a recharge? We cannot change the spark plugs. We cannot hold the swirl of the world away. We may even be revving up for a federal election. The Anglican communion is having a tense international meeting with results that may divide even more deeply fragile world wide bonds. I, for one, need to get better at my own personal recharge. Alone and with HT I need to continue to build deeply. I need to honour the little things and mark them carefully. In times of pain and sorrow it is important to know I am part of a much larger picture of hope.
Thanks to everyone who came on the parish week end and thanks to those who stayed home and minded the place here. Steve, Susie, Linda and Joyce stand our for a special round of applause for cooking and room assignments Jim Ferry for celebrating at both services in this place last Sunday. There are 3e jackets collected in the lost and found. Was one of them yours? Pretty amazing if that is all we left behind!
